The Miva platform offered significant capabilities for ecommerce merchants, however, the barrier to entry made editing and building new pages complex and costly. Simply adding a new page to your website required multiple steps, development knowledge, and unorthodox user flows. It became abundantly clear that even if our product served a core technical audience, we were causing a lot of friction for the rest of the users who expected simple actions to be more seamless.

We set out to create a feature-rich website page builder within our software, allowing our customers significant control over the look and feel of their websites without any design or coding experience. We conducted a thorough competitive research analysis to see what competing and leading page builders provided to develop a baseline for user expectations. Through over 10 years of experience working with enterprise merchants, our Professional Services team had valuable data on which website components were most used and interacted with in heatmaps.
We compiled that list and cross-checked them with industry-leading online stores to create a list of initial components and customizable elements. This led us to our wireframe and prototype sessions, where we conducted multiple feedback sessions with users, as well as our strategists and UX team in Professional Services. We made adjustments to components, in some areas simplifying them to serve the needs of the larger audience, while adding more capability to other aspects. Through rigorous rounds of feedback across the company and beyond, we refined the user experience in preparation for the long-awaited launch.

We launched a free update to our software, complete with a dozen pre-designed components and multiple templates. This allowed our users to easily create new home pages, informational pages, and easily add and edit landing pages for the numerous marketing campaigns they regularly deployed. Each component was designed to offer flexibility and capability without the complexity of common design tools. In many ways, our Page Builder offers more control than similar tools from competitors, even ones with significantly larger product teams, and that’s one area we took a great deal of pride in.

Our customers immediately found significant value in the new product, now fully empowered to easily create pages without the need to hire agencies. The Page Builder tool has also been invaluable to our sales process and customer retention. Now, a year later, we continue to add greater value to the product with the addition of new components and features, and our customers are still raving about it.
